These letters may be very disturbing to some. The names have been changed to protect the loved ones left behind. They are in no way meant to make judgments on others or cause more pain and suffering. They are a study of human behavior to help others understand the pain and suffering these people went through and encourage others to offer understanding and help when they can. Prevention is our goal and we should be aware that there are people in pain and torment. If you are one of those people you need to seek help for your condition. There are understanding professionals who will help you to deal with the pain you are feeling. Love, kindness, and understanding is there for the taking. Let us reflect on the thoughts of another and wish them eternal peace. Our objective is to have people realize that people need to be taken seriously when they talk of suicide and encourage those in distress to seek help.

I had a hard time putting this down! Coming from a history of a parent attempting suicide multiple times, this helped me understand that I am not alone. Yes, it is sad to know that so many people feel helpless that they would take their own life, but more than anything, I could hear what was going thru their minds.

The only thing I wish was different with this book, is I wanted to know more about the people that wrote the letters. I guess to understand more of their reasoning behind hurting their loved ones by taking their own lives...

I highly recommend this for people who have loved ones who have either committed suicide or attempted...

I'm in the Tub Gone (Audible Audio Edition) Richard Carlson Amy Barron Smolinski Daniel Morin AME LLC Books Reviews

Richard Carlson is one of the finest human beings I have ever known. We have been friends for years and I have consistently been amazed that a man who has seen so much of the worst inhumanity toward mankind, for years on end as a police officer and detective, could still be so kind and good and full of love and who wrote this book to help people, not to be macabre or sensationalize suicide.

This collection of letters, which I read when the book first came out (long before the was even an idea), is a beautiful insight into the agony of good people who decide they cannot live their lives anymore. People call suicide victims selfish but it takes a tremendous amount of pain and courage to do this.

I'm In The Tub, Gone is an important document for understanding our loved-ones, co-workers and general public who may be contemplating suicide and is an opportunity for all of us to learn the signs and maybe even mitigate an event, as well as offer peace to those left behind. Suicide is a very personal choice and no-one is to blame for it.
Save your money.
Wow this book was great!!!!!!!!I never thought this book was great. Thanks Richard Carlson hope I get to read other one of your books
So incredibly moving and sad. Really will make you think and pay attention to those who may be considering this.
Perhaps I have romanticized what suicide notes might say but I was surprised to see how simple and generic all of these were.
I can't believe I waited this long to purchase this as a great learning tool to understand the human conditiion. As painful as it is to understand.
Why would one choose to read a compilation of suicide notes? In my case, pure morbid curiousity.

Suicide can tend to be glamourized, especially in literature, or dramatized literature, or in Hollywood versions of dramatized accounts, fictional or not. In the prettified, sanitized version of events, the tendency is for the suicide to chose his/her method, leave an elegant, scrawled note, like something George Sanders would say, "I simply became bored..." Slow fade.

"I'm In The Tub GONE" = WYSIWYG. In other words, the title and description couldn't be more clear; I don't know why I thought otherwise...perhaps the somewhat glamourous kindle cover art. The author is a former policeman who gathered real suicide notes left behind at actual, brutal suicides. The notes are presented (misspellings and all) with an attempt to lay them out on the page the way they were written.

(Don't worry, there are no photos of the actual suicides, nor are the methods described in gross detail.)

Is it weird to say I liked this book? I love to learn, and this book showed me insight into the pathetic last moments of some of the most miserable humans on the planet. Depressing? Not really... Just sad, empty and tragic. A wake-up call for anyone fortunate enough not to have had an actual suicide affect their lives.
